The Bonnevaux Book of Prayer

As social restrictions for now prevent us from welcoming you at Bonnevaux in person, we are developing several ways of connecting together online. The Sunday Eucharist (noon French time) is one of these. Another way is a symbol of your daily presence here in the Barn – our meditation space – during our times of meditation. A Book of Prayer rests in front of the altar with names of friends written by hand in the book. Each of us in the community will see this sign of our being with you and you with us. We hope that this small sign will help you feel supported by the peace of Bonnevaux.
Please let us know if you would like to add your name to the Book of Prayer and we we will be happy to write it in.

  • As Wednesday is a Desert Day (total silent day), we suggest, whenever possible, that you arrive between Thursday and Sunday. This will give you a few days to enter into the rhythm of the house and then be able to enjoy the Desert Day. We hope that you will be able to stay with us for a minimum of one week as it will enable you to experience the life of the community in a deeper way.

  • * Although we do not have a professional kitchen / cook, we will do our best to accommodate your dietary need.

  • People come to Bonnevaux for different reasons and it would be useful for us to know the purpose of your visit.

    All visitors are invited to join the daily meditation times and meals. In exchange for your room and board, it is our hope that you will make a financial contribution to help us meet the expenses of maintaining Bonnevaux. This contribution will vary according to your choice of one of the categories found below.

    The request for contribution should not be an obstacle and can be adapted to personal conditions.

    We are grateful for any additional donations to support the work of the community and the Abbaye de Bonnevaux.

    • * Working Volunteer
      This includes five hours of voluntary work per day, participating in the daily tasks of the community, attending daily work meetings and possibly joining in weekly sharing circles.
      If you are happy to work in this way alongside the community then a donation of 20 euros a day would be welcome.
      Please know that as a volunteer you might have to share a room with someone.

    • * Part time volunteer
      Participation in the daily tasks of the community and a short period of voluntrary work of about 2 hours. A contribution of 45 euros a day in a shared room or 60 euros a day in a private room would be welcome.

    • * Private Retreat Guest
      If you would prefer to use your time here to follow your own programme (outside of the times of prayer and meditation) then we would be grateful for a donation of 65 euros a day in a shared room or 80 euros a day in a private room.
