Paul E. Dunn, PhD is a clinical psychologist in private practice in southern New Jersey, USA and a Benedictine Oblate with the World Community for Christian Meditation. Paul’s journey toward becoming a bit of an expert in the area of healing heartache through Christian Meditation started when he went through his own experience of deep heartache as a result of the breakup of his 23 year marriage. Through Paul’s experience of individual therapy, couples counseling, journaling, reading, and a disciplined daily Christian Meditation prayer life he discovered Wisdom, relief and healing. This workshop was born from this Wisdom.

Come and immerse yourself in the contemplative life at Bonnevaux as you seek to heal from the heartache, grief and overwhelm due to the ending of a significant relationship.

This retreat – led by Dr. Paul Dunn, PhD, Laurence Freeman and Giovanni Felicioni – integrates introducing you to meditation or deepening an already existing practice with psychological education, yoga and movement work to support you in your journey toward growth and healing.

During this retreat we hope that you will learn and acquire the following:
– a greater understanding of the universal experience of heartache and loss
– have an opportunity to share and discuss your own experience with one another should you wish
– learn more about the common dynamics that often lead to the breakdown of relationships as well as skills that support healthy loving ones.
– gain a greater understanding of the stages of grief and how to create and use healing-affirmations
– an understanding of Acceptance Therapy 
– integrate these learnings with your daily meditation practice to further enhance the healing process
– explore how through the yoga and movement sessions  your embodied self can learn to re-orient when life overwhelms us.

Wednesday, 7 September 2022
The retreat begins with evening prayer and mediation followed by dinner.  You will receive a detailed retreat schedule at the Welcome and Orientation session following dinner. Check-in occurs upon your arrival at Bonnveaux; you’ll be welcomed with a refreshing tea or coffee.
 
Thursday, 8 September  – Saturday, 10 September
Each day offers you the opportunity to immerse yourself in the contemplative rhythm of life we live at Bonnevaux in the beauty and silence of the natural surroundings of the 80 hectare park in which Bonnevaux is situated.  Our days will consist of 3 or 4 mediation sessions, yoga with Giovanni in the morning, and 2 talks led by Paul Dunn and Laurence Freeman.  There will be times for small and larger group discussions and a Q&A with the speakers.  You will also have time for silence and solitude and to be out in nature.
 
Sunday, 11 September
On Sunday morning we will have time to come together for closure, thank yous and good byes.   You can leave before or after lunch according to your travel arrangements. Please let us know in advance if you plan to leave before lunch so we can offer you a lunch box for your travel.

At Bonnevaux we aim to offer a healthy cuisine for vegetarians and non-vegetarians. IMPORTANT! Leaving the option blank (in the registration form below) means you have chosen the non-vegetarian option. Please understand that we cannot change your meal plan once you are at Bonnevaux. Please be aware that food may contain some common allergens (e.g. nuts). In case of food allergy or intolerance, please contact us with a medical certificate.

Cancellation

— Please ensure you have travel insurance in place as we cannot refund cancelled travel for any reason.
— If you cancel your Bonnevaux booking up to 30 days before the event starts, you will be refunded the full cost of the event.  Cancellations occurring within 30 days of the event start will be offered a voucher for a future event. Bonnevaux reserves the right to cancel events at any point – cancellations occurring within 30 days prior to the event start date will be subject to the voucher refund policy only.

Membership fee is paid once per year, valid strictly from Jan – Dec.

** by French law you must be a ‘member‘ of the charity (association ABP) Abbaye de Bonnevaux – Centre Pour la Paix in order to participate at an on-the-ground event at Bonnevaux – 86370 Marçay, France. 

Membership is non-binding. It simply means that you are invited to attend the annual general meeting if you wish and that you may receive information about our events during the year.

The Abbey of Bonnevaux is the spiritual home of the World Community for Christian Meditation (WCCM) which includes a Conference and Retreat Centre dedicated to peace.
